Rick Millward - Songwriters' Studio

RETURN

Latest single is "Seabag" with John Else...listen HERE

After this last set of demos I recorded here I've decided to make my home studio available to other songwriters and musicians. It's not been a priority for me to record other people; I've had plenty to do just working on my own music.Ultimately I'm hoping to transition to becoming a full time producer and be paid to put my stamp on the tracks of the artists I work with. I'm aware though that I need to build a "track record", hence my offer to my RN friends to collaborate at no charge. Hurray for the internet to allow me access to so many great musicians!

As you know the music market is moving to the model of the "internet download single" and I've come to believe that this is the way acts will get noticed from here on. For me a "single" is a track that stands out and has a unique ability to showcase both the song and the artist. It's a combination of song, arrangement and performance that becomes greater than the sum of the parts and comes from having the influence of a producer who brings that "x factor" to the recording.

I don't want to do this in a vacuum, though. If we work together the goal must be that our track be something that you'll promote to your fanbase as a special project so we both get maximum return from the effort. I'd expect that you'd put the track up for sale and share the download revenue...I'm thinking a dime per download...but the immediate benefit is your help in building my credibility as a producer.

I have worked in full size studios, back in the 80's in California, most notably at Music Annex and also helped build Tres Virgos Studio which became Tarpan when it was sold to Michael Narada Walden. Both are state of the art facilities and I was one lucky guitar slinger to work and learn there. Since moving to Tennessee I've done some soundtrack work for Nashville Public Television's "Tennessee Crossroads" show, and HorsepowerTV on Spike.

My studio is a typical Mac set-up, but one thing I have that's not so typical is a Soundcraft Ghost board. I had one in the studio I worked in at Apple Computer and vowed to get one of my own one day. It's got terrific pre-amps and transparent eq. I love the retro "big board" look.

Here are a couple of shots of my layout.

These are my thoughts on the production process...One song...a "single",...We'd start with a vocal/guitar track from you (you'd send me the separate tracks...set to a click.) and go from there. You would need the ability to record your parts to mixes I'd send as we went along. Lot's of details here, but I hope you get the basic idea.

Here's a sample of some tracks I've produced...Thanks!
